OREO Kicks Off “Wonderfilled” Dunk Challenge With Three Celebrity Superstars and MPC.
Can you dunk like Shaq? We don’t mean dunk a basketball, we mean dunk an OREO cookie. That’s the premise of a new celebrity-studded campaign for OREO from The Martin Agency, which features dazzling feats of dunking proficiency made possible by MPC. The campaign includes not just broadcast TV commercials but a robust social media element all designed to support a consumer sweepstakes calling for OREO fans to submit dunk photos or videos with #oreodunksweepstakes on Facebook,
Instagram and Twitter. Winners will get a chance to meet the celebs in the campaign face to face.
The campaign not only features former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal, but also international recording artist Christina Aguilera and Brazilian fútbol sensation Neymar Jr. In Shaq’s spot, he appears in a flashy sequined suit, taking on the new Oreo Dunk Challenge. To ensure that he remains the title-holder of all he competes in, Shaq twists and turns his way down aerial silks in front of a crowded stadium, completely created by the MPC team. Once he reaches the bottom, he gracefully dunks an OREO cookie into a tall glass of milk.
For her rendition of the Dunk Challenge, Christina Aguilera takes on the role of a Bicycle Trapeze Artist from the days of classic circus performances, complete with an old Hollywood starlet look to match. She pedals to the middle of the wire, where she then tips the bicycle upside down and effortlessly dunks her OREO cookie into a glass of milk beneath her.
Neymar Jr., meanwhile, stays true to his athletic prowess for his OREO Dunk Challenge. Giving the camera a quick wink before his stunt, he falls backwards, only to rebound off of a giant circus trampoline below, his OREO cookie remaining in hand throughout. Once he returns to his original position, he’s welcomed with a soccer ball and a tall glass of cold milk to complete his dunk.
In addition to creating the crowd scenes, MPC’s VFX artists also handled extensive compositing for the stunt shots of the celebrities, including lighting, shading and other effects.
