Digital matte paintings are used to create 2D elements to extend or enhance virtual sets and digital back-lots that are costly or impractical to build. Large scale ‘hand drawn’ images, they can constitute entire sets, or extend portions of a shot environment. The paintings are often re-projected onto a 3D environment, allowing for 3D camera movements. MPC matte painters create elements seen in the majority of our projects.
