Shynola has directed Coldplay’s new Viva La Vida promo, Strawberry Swing. Building on the animated style, the new spot shows Chris Martin as a superhero battling a giant squirrel to save a damsel trapped in a giant tea cup. The record company was EMI and the job was produced by Margo Mars at RSA. MPC carried out all roto and compositing.

The stop motion video was shot in LA,  then backplates were brought back to Shynola HQ in London where a chalk drawn fantasy world was created.  After receiving the final edit, MPC London worked closely with Technicolor Beijing to rotoscope all the elements for the spot.  MPC’s 2D team then seamlessly composited the live action, and animation elements.

Jean-Clement Soret added the master grade to the back-plates and George K added a final DCP.

Strawberry Swing can be viewed online and on cinemas from 22nd July, 2009.
