More 4, The Shining

Siri Bunford of Channel 4’s Creative Services has directed the 65 sec one take tracking shot style trail for the Stanley Kubrick season on More 4. This painstaking remake of the ‘making of‘ the movie includes look-a-likes from the original cast and crew. Production for this film was handled by Shananne Lane and Louise Oliver of Channel4. Post production and telecine was provided by MPC.

The ‘hotel’ set was built as a replica of the iconic movie environment with some actual props taken from Kubrick’s original 1980 film. The instantly recognisable carpets were re-made as was the trike we remember seeing Danny on careering around the halls. Viewers get Kubrick's point of view as he walks through the set, ending up in his director's chair as the crew prepare to shoot the aforementioned scene of Danny Torrance, the son of Shelley Duvall and Jack Nicholson's characters, riding round and round the deserted corridors of the Overlook Hotel.

The promo, filmed as a single tracking shot with a cast of 55 actors, was meticulously researched to "remain as faithful as possible to the period in which it was shot and the culture of the British studio in the late 1970s".

Much of MPC’s work was clean up to the shot footage captured on the replica set. Lens flares were added on to specific elements highlighted in the camera move and on set play back screens were replaced.

The promo went on air on the channel 4 network.
