MPC FIGHTS FOR GLADIATORS' COME BACK

Ron Scalpello has directed Sky One’s new Gladiators launch Ad. The 45’’ promo uses ancient Rome to announce the new generation return of the 90’s sensation. MPC provided telecine, 2d and 3d post for the commercial.

Set in an ancient Coliseum, the ad features a classic yet brutal gladiatorial combat.  Cleverly combining old and new, the fight starts like a traditional roman ceremony, with many gladiators fighting in the arena.  Eventually, when the winner is ready to kill, he looks at the emperor – a cameo by the legendary referee John Anderson - who shows his approval by raising a big foam hand. Culminating with the crowds clapping and cheering the commercial promises a very exciting second round.

The 2d team - led by Daniel Adams - carried out clean-up, railings removal, crowd replication for the public, reconstruction of the stadium and matte painting.
