The VFX of Disney’s "The Jungle Book"
Rob Legato, Adam Valdez, Andy Jones, Keith Miller
The visual effects team behind Jon Favreau’s live-action adaptation of "The Jungle Book" discusses the creative and technical challenges behind bringing the story's characters and stunning full CG environments to life. A team of over 800 CG artists worked for two years to animate over 60 species of animal; craft the mountain temple, trees, rocks, and vines; and simulate earth, fire, and water.

DARK HIDES THE LIGHT
Rendering Fast & Furious: Supercharged in Stereo for a 400-Foot Curved Screen
For Fast & Furious: Supercharged, MPC needed to produce footage for projection on an enormous U-shaped screen. This raised three main challenges: anticipating the projection warping, recomposing the perspective, and ensuring a consistent stereoscopic effect. The MPC team developed a custom camera model and an "audience experience" validation process.

Can't See the Jungle for the Trees
For Disney's "The Jungle Book", we needed to build huge and highly detailed jungle sets. We built a tool set that enables our artists to view and manipulate this amount of data, providing powerful functionality whilst maximising efficiency.

The Trees of "The Jungle Book"
Alexander Schwank, Callum James, Tony Micilotta
For Disney's remake of "The Jungle Book", MPC was required to build a jungle comprised of photorealistic trees and other plantlife. The creative team leveraged SpeedTree and Fabric Engine to build a pipeline for those elements. Approximated leaf cards, replaced at render time, maximized the image quality and render performance.
ANGRY EFFECTS SALAD
The Effects of "The Jungle Book"
Oliver Winwood, Rob Hopper, Kai Wolter
"The Jungle Book" was a unique project for MPC, and its rich environments and detailed characters presented various challenges for the FX department, which was required to create physically believable simulations that would blend seamlessly with their surroundings while interfacing with large data sets and meeting the production schedule.
